
PV Technician
BlueDot Photonics, a Seattle-based company, is growing its team to realize its mission of delivering solar power at a fraction of today’s costs. We are a spin-off from the University of Washington focused on developing new technology to improve the efficiency of today’s solar panels and manufacture new optoelectronic devices based on metal-halide perovskite semiconductors. We are a fast-paced start-up that provides workers with independence and opportunities to come up with creative solutions to tough problems.

We are looking for a PV Technician with experience in building and testing PV devices to join our team and help drive the development of new solar devices using our proprietary technology.

​ Job Responsibilities:

Perform complete characterization of PV devices produced in the course of R&D efforts, including, but not limited to, measuring power conversion efficiency, quantum efficiency, etc.

Assist in the preparation of thin film PV devices including deposition of ancillary layers (e.g., transport layers, contacts, etc.) and their characterization (e.g., measuring film uniformity, photoluminescent properties, etc.)

Assist as needed in the preparation of photoactive materials involved in the production of PV devices

Contribute to the refinement and optimization of process and device designs based on results of testing

Lead up efforts to test long-term stability of PV devices and work on improving encapsulation strategies.

Document results from testing and characterization to company standards

Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Preserve product and company reputation by complying with government laws and regulations.

Collaborate with team members to keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair; following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; and requesting special services.

Collaborate with other team members to improve and refine technology in both formal meetings and in day-to-day work.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science field relevant to PV devices

Preference for experience working in an R&D lab related to PV device development.

Preference for previous experience in the characterization and testing of PV devices

Computer skills in data analysis and reporting, preference for advanced data analytics
Role Start Date: 6/1/2020 (earliest possible, may be 7/1/2020)
